Default Error code P0456

'03 Caravan 83k miles. The engine light came on and this is the code P0456 that was on it. Where would be good place to start looking for the problem?

p0456
Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (very small leak)

SIMPLE

this is an evap system code- often called -loose gas cap- As starting with gas cap is first suggestion....be sure its tight, and the seal is good..
I would ck that ....fill tank operate hopefully cap was issue and repeated drive cycles will clear code....

If dosn't clear:
no other codes.... then let us know the -the EELD - evap emiss leak detector (smoke machne) is next step BUT is vehicle operated on steep grades? there is a TSB FOR a problem with PCM

Thanks for the info, away from the computer all weekend. Will try the gas cap and see what happens. The van is not driven anywhere that has alot of steep grades.

it was a LOCKING GAS CAP ON MY RAM 1500, if you installed a locking gas cap, even if bought from the dealer as where i bought mine, try the factory cap first,

456, 441, 442, 440...had all of these and i switched out the gas cap to realize it wasnt the prob. then changed the evap hoses under the truck...fixed two codes. the other two went away after i replaced the evap hoses in the engine. Ive been code free for about two months and hoping to keep it that way...ive got emissions this year.

I know this is an old post but I fixed my small evap leak. My engine light came on last week and came up the code P0456 on my '03 Grand Caravan. Checked the obvious locations connectors, hoses near air filter. Found that my pcv valve was loose and tightened it and cleared the codes again. After a very short drive down the street the check engine light came on again. Traced all evap hoses to the vapor canister under the van and pulled off one 3/8 hose off the canister only to find out that the hose split near the connector. Bought a regular 3/8 fuel hose and cut it to length and put new clamps on and slightly tightened them up. I then cleared the codes again and drove the car about 2 miles and no problems with the check engine light. Hooked up OBDII to recheck for any codes and found nothing. Seems to be all okay now. Very simple to fix even a monkey can do it.

Here is what the vapor canister on a GC looks like. It's located on the driver's side under the car. It's big and you can't miss it!!!
