Hey, this is my first, but for sure not last post.

I just got a 2003 Dodge Neon. Two of my speakers do not work. The driver door speaker and the passenger rear speaker. I am looking to just replace both of the rear speakers first, and then the fronts later.

My initial question is how do I do this? Not necessarily how to get to the speakers, but everything involving the wiring and such (I do not know how to solder). Do I need to buy an harness? What all do I need?

EDIT: I found out why I rear right speaker doesn't work. It is disconnected. How would I reconnect this?

 

Are you getting stock OEM speakers or aftermarket?

 

I am going to be ordering aftermarket ones off Ebay. Maybe Pioneer, maybe not.

 

Hmm I've never installed after market lol. With any luck they should just connect to the old connector. If not I'm sure they would include something telling you which wire is power and which one is ground on the speaker it self. Then you would just have to find power and ground on the harness with a test light.

You don't really have to solder it if you don't know how, the next best thing would be to get some heat shrink connectors that you crimp then heat up.

 

Most videos I watch, the people cut off the connectors for the stock speakers and solder the negative and positive wires onto the aftermarket speaker. I am confused.

crimp them on the speaker wires and push them onto the speaker tab...simple as that

I will try this out.

 

Cut the old wires to remove the OEM speakers. take the wires that come with the new speakers and strip about 1/2 inch off. Do the same for the wires in the car. Match up the wires + to + - to - I don't know the colors but for after market the solids are + striped are -. If you have crimps. Insert one wire in each side of the crimp. making sure they match of course. If you don't crimp. Twist them together and electrical tape them. It works it's just not as neat.

 

I found out why my right rear speaker doesn't work. It is not attached to anything. It seems like the previous owner cut the wires. Will upload a photo later.

Edit: here's what it looks like from the trunk. How could I hook this back up until I get my new speakers?
