You should be able to if a/c was an option on your truck. I took my a my a/c out and run a shorter belt, but i have a 2.5. Open your hood and look for a sticker for with a belt diagram or route.

yep it is you can alway put a shorter belt on to bypass as long as the pulley doesn't get in the way

you will need a different pulley for that side, the dealer may have meant without changing pullies an bracket

That's what I was thinking, to keep thngs spinnign the right way, there might be an idler pulley where the compressor is, on AC-delete trucks.

my 2001 dak paper factory service manual. the 4.7 is NOT shown with out the AC. it only shows it with what we would call a LONG belt. BUT the 5.2/5.9 is shown with out an AC, with the AC pulley gone, and a shorter belt going from pulley 5, the power steer pulley straight to the idler pulley, #1, with pulley #3 AC compressor gone. it looks like the belt would miss the AC pulley if you ran it stright from power steering pulley #5 to the idler pulley #1, this is on a 5.2/5.9. on the 4.7 the belt routing is totally different. on the 4.7 it looks like you could by pass the #7, AC pulley and go from the water pump pulley straight to the #6 tension er pulley , and the tensioner will work fine, just by pass the #7 AC pulley, no need to remove it. course youll need a shorter belt. i hope i have been clear good luck.

Can't tell which is the compressor from this image, but I'm guessing top left...not enough room to be able to make the belt around the tensioner without the belt rubbing itself and the tensioner being next to useless..

You should be able to get a bypass pulley that will bolt in place of the ac.

yes you can, the PO did this to my truck, you need to remove the ac comp from the truck. Then you can run your shorter belt. In my case the PO just removed the pulley from the comp. and the shorter belt was running below and rubbing on the electomagnet part of the clutch.
