Mine actually roars when the engine is cold till I get the engine above about 1200 rpm's. I had a boss of mine loan me his Dak a long time ago (that's what turned me onto the Dak/D's) and his fan was constantly roaring andthe truckwas probably a year old.

My clutch won't disengage until after a few miles of continuous driving! At times when the engine goes past 3k, man, the fan sounds like a jet!

my dakota ´05 is the other way around, when i first start it up every morning it doesn´t make any sound and runs great, but when it reaches some temperature it starts sounding like it´s gonna take off, and losses a BIG amount of horsepower, and it stays like that even if a drive it for hours it just doesn´t go away, what do u think could possibly be happening

muppet30: you should go post over in the 3rd generation dakota section.

however the most likely cause of your problem is a seized up fan clutch, take it off the and try driving the truck (as long as you drive at a low traffic time where you wont be caught sitting still for long periods you will be just fine w/o a fan_ and see if it does it. i do not recommend leaving the fan off long term but for a short test it will be just fine.

Default Loud Roar. Fan Clutch issue?????

My 2000 Dakota makes the loud roar yes on first start but it also does this once warmed up especially when stopped and going into first gear. Its really loud. Is this a bad fan clutch or is this normal for dodge? I have read both answers. Im wondering if I need to replace the fan clutch to decrease the noise or if that will only happen if I put in an electric clutch?? HELP!!

Electric clutch? Mine quit when it warmed up. Basically if i had heat coming from my vents it didn't make that noise. It was actually within the first 2 to 3 minutes in the winter time but using the heater would give you a more accurate time frame. E.x. I have heat it should be quiet.

doing it at cold start is normal, if the fan clutch is engaging when you slow down or stop then your engine is running hot and the fan is engaging and doing its job until you get moving again and it cools back down, without seeing it personally i couldnt tell you for sure.
