2008 Dodge avenger CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON!
To all 2008 dodge owners:
I have had some problems with the check engine light on. A computer code check indicates that the codes are:
P2017, p2004, p0700: They indicate that the power control module is stuck open or malfunction. The diagnostics indicate that the intake manifold internal failure. The pcm also had to have software updates.
At a cost of $680 to $800, the manifold was replaced. The pcm had to be reflashed with two updates. From the dealership, the manifold cost $355.
Have your vehicle checked at autozone for free!!!
These problems are not on a recall especially for the 2008 dodge avenger.

This would be covered under the powertrain warranty if you still have any. The 2008's have a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty in the United States to the first owner. Also, there was a service bulletin on this issue I am posting below in case anyone needs to see it.

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the GPEC Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) with new software and replacing the intake manifold as required.
CAUTION: VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A CVT TRANSMISSION MUST HAVE THE
TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) CHECKED FOR THE LATEST
SOFTWARE LEVEL WHENEVER THE PCM SOFTWARE IS UPGRADED. IF
NEWER TCM SOFTWARE IS AVAILABLE, IT MUST BE INSTALLED.

2007- 2008 (JS) Avenger
2007 (JS) Sebring
2008 (JS27) Sebring Convertible
2007 (MK49) Compass
2007 (MK74) Patriot
2007 (PM) Caliber
NOTE: This bulletin applies to models equipped with a 1.8L, 2.0L or 2.4L gasoline
engine (Sales Code EBA, ECN or ED3) as follows: Flash portion applies to
PM/MK models built through April 21, 2007 (MDH 0421XX) and JS models
built through May 15, 2007 (0515XX). The Intake Manifold Replacement
portion applies to models built through March 22, 2007 (MDH0322XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may experience MIL Illumination with no other symptoms. The condition
may occur intermittently. Further investigation by the technician may find DTC P2004 -
Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open as the cause for MIL Illumination.

The vehicle I have is currently not under manufacturer warranty because I am not the first owner. It is over 120k miles. It still runs like new with regular preventative maintenance scheduled done.
I spoke to several Chrysler Dodge manufacturers and dealers. They said this bulletin would not apply to this situation.
