Want to go faster than the 5.7 hemi
I just bought a 94 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9l from my buddy who just bought a 09 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7l hemi. Turns out the 09 is faster haha as if I needed to tell you that. But I want to rebuild the 360 and my question is can the 360 hold enough hp to run with the hemi without being supercharged, turboed or stroking to the 408. I want beat his new truck with his old one lol

Come on now guys... Lol... It can happen
You will need to really beef up that 5.9 in your rebuild to hang in there though. The typical hot rod stuff... better heads, higher compression pistons, better rockers, cam.... Then of coarse you will need a retune on your PCM. I think Hemifever is the guy to talk to on that. From what I have heard, he can make your PCM run most any parameters you want.

the latest hemis have what, 390 at the crank? the 360 im building, should be throwing down close to 380 at the crank. i didnt touch the bottom end either. cam, 1.7 rr's, better heads, mopar m1, lt headers with appropriate exhaust, 50mm throttle body, and a hemifever tune.
youre looking at close to 3k in parts, and another 500-1k in small items.

Tuning is going to be the hard part. As you have a 94, Hemifever can't help you. You will have to either send your PCM out to be re-tuned, or put on a standalone system to compensate for mods. No way you are going to get enough power out of it without doing something with the electronics.

Thanks yall I can get him from 0-40 mph after that I'm toast. When he leaves his traction control on his rear wheels hit and miss without tc on he burns up tires lol. I was gonna do the 408 but the more I read the more work is required. I was actually gonna start buying parts for the 360 I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to push the block over it's limit. And I thought about the diesel but it's so out played here in Waco, tx kinda lame.

I guess the biggest question...how much $$$ are you willing to spend to beat your friend?
Honestly, with a '94, and a big budget, I would build the 360 up to match the HP numbers of the Hemi. Run it with a carb instead of dicking with the fuel injection system. I would choose a different gear ratio for the gears. I would lighten the truck in safe ways. Choose tires with good grip but not obscene rolling mass.
That would be a truck that could beat an '09 Hemi...assuming he doesn't start spending money to stay undefeated.
