Default Bypass the Heater Core

My heater core went yesterday (during snow storm) and I got a nice wet inner windshield and a new air-freshener (antifreeze).

On my old truck, i just bypassed the core by cutting and connecting the 2 hoses in the engine compartment.

Is it possible to bypass the heater core in a 2000 Durango (4.7)?

Thanks

You can as a temp solution but, i would advise to fix it ASAP as you will not have heat or defog/defrost.

You can bypass it right at firewall area. If you have rear heat you can still use rear heat to warm your D

my heater core went a few weeks ago, now i have this vapor coming in through every space on my dash.(also smells antifreeze)..someone did tell me i can plug the line so the antifreeze dosent get the the h.c. , and continue to leak... is this a good temporary solution?, also ,...since the summer is just about here, will this affect my air conditioner??

You could take the two hoses off the heater core at the firewall in the engine bay and join the two hoses together then it will just flow like the heater core is there and you would not have to worry about any crap getting into or coming out of the system. Doing this is perfectly fine, you will just loose your heat/defrost but, being that its June i don't think that will bother you much.

As for you A/C i won't hurt it a bit, in fact it might work a little better since there is not the added heat in the cabin from the heater core. I personally have a brass valve on the in line of my heater core that way in the summer i can shut it off for that very reason.

As said above, it should not have any negative effects except loss of defrost and heat from dash.

well loss of hot defrost, you can still blow air on the windshield if you should need it.
