Default Dakota With Natural Gas Conversion.

Has anyone out there converted a Dak to run on compressed natural gas? I've heard that the conversion is pretty easy and you can install a switch to have the car run on either gasoline or natural gas.

Gas prices are ridiculous out here and CNG is a rough equivalent to around $2.50/gallon, so I think it's time to look into other options. I've been told that kits range from $1500 to almost $2000, which should pay for itself in a month or two, these days.

If anyone has more information on this, I'd be really interested to hear about it!

Ya with oil prices rising that pretty much screws everything. Most things regardless of what it is use oil in some form. Either for tranportation of in the manufacturing. It sucks but everything will go up at some point its just a matter of when and how much [:'(]

Mind you i wouldnt mind learning about doing a propane converion for an off-roader. no stalls during extrame angles is a good thing

I know we converted some of our deisel Ford vans to propane. Wasn't to terribly hard to do, from what the techs had said. But, this is not a overnight project either. It took our techs several days to do the conversion. Not sure how much easier or harder it is to do a gas to propane or natural gas conversion.

Even if Natural Gas prices go up,I could at least choose which fuel to use based on whichever is cheaper at the time.

Plus, it's a lot cleaner burning and if used exclusively, the engine will last quite a bit longer. Also, if I spring for the home refueling system, I can refill from home...

Propane (and I expect CNG also) has only about 75% of the power that gasolene has. You probably wouldn't save that much, and you would really miss the performance.

Tho if you wanted the eco option it wouldnt be a bad idea. Tho i think a cummins running on bio diesel would be better performance and milage. Just my $.02, and i would LOVE a cummins in my kota
