when you hit the over drive button.from my understanding and how it works in my truck.is it cancels out your over drive gear so if you have a 4 speed like me it will shift down from the over drive gear to 4rth gear.

to notice any change you will have to be going well around 100 kilometers an hour.then when you hit that button you will feel/hear the truck shift down.

hope this answers your question

could be one of two things... first your overdrive assembly probably needs adjustmant/replacement.

2nd (and less likely at this time of year) but if the transmission isn't warm enough, it won't move into OD... usually this occurs in the winter when the tranny is super cold.

BTW remember that you have 4 forward gears in your 44RE, and when OD is off, it only uses the 3 of them.

Cheers.
