Default 340 Dakota?

Hello everyone, I have a 1997 Dakota 4x4 with a 318 which has about 140,000 miles on it. I am concidering a 340 crate (300/375) long block swap. Has anyone here made this swap already and can give me a heads up on the pros and cons of such a swap?
Thanks for your input in advance.

I haven't seen it done, but it would a cool swap. Not sure how difficult. Is it carb'ed? I'm assuming so.

If you are going crate it would probably be easier and more worthwhile to just do a 408 stroker swap.

i would have to say go with the 408 or 418 but either way it will be a pretty cool swap.

good luck!

why not just rebuilt your 318 to 390 specs? That would be really easy. You could just keep all your wiring the way it is and everything else. It would be a simple pull, rebuild, then re-install.

That is what I want to do with mine once I can get the $$$. The Hughes kit runs just shy of $1700.

A crate motor is going to be a lot more than 1700...
