To my knowledge MODERN synthetics are very flexible with conventional oil. Can be swapped back and forth, can be mixed with it. And will not harm the engine if not designed for it. The Old synthetics are the ones that cause all the problems.

My grandfather has owned his own shop and been a mechanic for 40 years and hes always said its not a good idea. Not that 5 miles down the road after you switch that your motor is going to gernade, but that its not a good idea. I don't know a lot of the technical science behind it, but that its not a good idea. Also it may be like Crazy said hes been under this influence since the old days and that now in days it may be ok. But I guess if it were my truck I wouldn't go back and forth. If you ran it at one point, just stick with it.

I already know the answer. I'm just looking to see what other opinions are.

Please enlighten us then lol.

I'm sure its ok to do. But I wouldn't. If you're going to run synthetic, stick with it. Its better for your engine anyway.

Right here. Its the answer. Only I don't do it. When I decide to do the switch, I'll be keeping it in there. It has more benefits then conventional...

Is it true though, that with older oils it wasn't something that should be done? Because its been one of those myths thats been around forever. Is it based on old school oils and there have been changes to the oils over the years?

I would assume so. The advances in older oil to today's is different. My guess is Crazy is correct on that part too.
