To my knowledge MODERN synthetics are very flexible with conventional oil. Can be swapped back and forth, can be mixed with it. And will not harm the engine if not designed for it. The Old synthetics are the ones that cause all the problems.

My grandfather has owned his own shop and been a mechanic for 40 years and hes always said its not a good idea. Not that 5 miles down the road after you switch that your motor is going to gernade, but that its not a good idea. I don't know a lot of the technical science behind it, but that its not a good idea. Also it may be like Crazy said hes been under this influence since the old days and that now in days it may be ok. But I guess if it were my truck I wouldn't go back and forth. If you ran it at one point, just stick with it.

Is it true though, that with older oils it wasn't something that should be done? Because its been one of those myths thats been around forever. Is it based on old school oils and there have been changes to the oils over the years?
