Default Transmission stuck in 2nd gear.....

I Have a 99' Dakota with 90k miles, 3.9L V6 auto. When I was driving it today, it would not upshift out of second gear. I restarted the truck and haven't had a problem since. I've heard that Chrysler Trans from this year will resort to second gear, if the transmission is having trouble. Is this true? I'm about to take the truck to the repair shop. Could the problem possibly be something other than replacing the whole Trans??? Thanks!

I'm not sure myself. But you can check the stickies in this section for the service manual. That has a diagnostic chart of the for the transmission.
