making a bed canoe rack

Default making a bed canoe rack

just wondering if anyone has made a canoe rack for their bed. i know theres the ones you can buy for 1 or 200 a piece, but ive seen them made out of 2x4s. i go canoeing once a year at a lake so theres no real point in something like that for me

this is on a ram with the stake pockets, but its a canoe rack.
somebody told me a dakota doesn't have the pockets. is that true ?

send me a pm if you want more detailed pics of the rack or the tie down straps.

yep dakota got no pockets, its really annoying ive contemplated making some in my bed

not like it would be that hard drill a hole in the bed then cut or grind it out and make smooth

We have this for the ram only ours is just like a T very simple to make if you dont want to spend money but we got ours for 45.00 Even better this requires no cutting or drilling.

Really 2nd Gen don't? LOL!

1st Gen does. I wonder if 3rd does?
I personally have bed rails with tie downs on top.
I never really seen the pockets used for anything, besides as a tie down. But using it is a slick way to mount up the canoe holder. Easily removable.

actually that wont work, since i tow a boat also at the same time

Well do you have a aftermarket hitch or do you use the bumper either way you could still make it work.

the bed pockets as in the ones in the bottom of the box? I have two recessed holes with the hooks in the front, the back is just a hook in the side... But, yea Might just be best to make something up using some self tapping screws and be on your way...

i never thought of that but
wouldnt the bar prevent me hooking the boat up to the bumper?
