Default Moonroof/Sunroof

Anyone here ever install their own sunroof? I have a 99 dakota and would like to put one in. There are kits available for new ones that run $500-700. I thought maybe I could get one from a dakota or durango in the junk yard that has one as a cheaper alternative. Any thoughts or experience with this?

Yes I have installed sunroofs, but never in a Dakota. I would not get a used one, it would very likely have a very bad leak problem. Best bet is to find a truck accesooies shop or independent car audio/accessories store that would have a better price, or maybe just have it installed. If you have the roof console with the computer and all that, a sunroof won't be compatible. If you don't have the console, you will still have to either relocate or lose the dome light.

We had one installed in our 99 ford f250 I think it was about 1,000 for the dealer to do it. Personally I would have a pro install it you def dont want a hole that big leaking. Its possible to install yourself but you will need to be very careful.

if you go to webasto.com, they should be able to find a roofer in your area. depending on the type of sunroof you want will depend on the dollars you spend. i charge dealers $799 for a top sliding electric roof and $1100 for an internal sliding roof. remember you get what you payfor. a lap full of water is not worth the $300 you saved on a cheap roof
