Default Engine Hesitates and Pops while driving

Hi All, I am having issues with my 1999 Dodge Dakota (V6 4wd). While driving it will intermittantly start hesitating and when you get on the gas more it will continue to hesistate and make popping sounds near the engine. While driving I put it in neutral turn the ignition of and restart the trunk then put it in drive and its fine. Does anyone no what this is? Its not throwing out any codes and the engine light is not on. I have already given it a full tune-up and that didn't do anything at all. Youy help is much appreciated. Brian

have you checked your coil? and the wires leading to it. I had a coil fail on me and it would intermittently turn off and do something similar but however only sometimes it would start up right away.

Yeah, the coil seems fine. Someone mentioned an Idle Control or something but I can't find the part anywhere. Thanks

check the cap and rotor for carbon tracking, if there is a bad seal, then moisture could be the culprit too. maybe reset the PCM?

Definately check the cap and rotor. If all seems fine with the ignition system, I would probably point at the MAP sensor especially since it runs fine if you turn it off and crank it back up. I have had a few trucks that would run like crap for no apparent reason every once in awhile and not set any codes or MIL light.

I had the exact same problem on my 3.9 and I think its the cat. It does the exact same thing and I did the same, by giving her a full tune up including some fuel injector cleaner and nothing. I really think its a cat. but like you I have no code.

My 99 Dakota is doing this same thing (5.2L 4x4). I just replaced the TPS because it was shifting crazy. I was hoping that it would resolve this issue also, but it didn't. Anyone ever find a solution for this? Thanks

i was gunna put up a post today on the same matter. my 01 4.7 is hesitating a little bit at cruising speeds. i can feel it, hear it but nothing is changing on the tach. it is a very small "pop" every once in a while. it is not shifting funny or starting hard. it is acually running great. i do have a cel for a bad upstream o2, but that has been on for a lot longer than the current problem. i dont have a cap and rotor or one coil either. could be one of the coils, bad cat(due to the o2 problem), plugs? where should i start to dump money? should i let it go till it gets worse and easier to chase down?

I changed out the air charge sensor with a buddies and it seemed to help a lot. Is this normal?
