Default 2001 r/t

I just bought a 2001 r/t with 60k miles. I love the truck, its pretty quick, but i bought it to make it faster. Just wondering what you guys thought were good mods to start with on a r/t. I was planning on the normal exhaust, intake, and then a tb. Maybe some 1.7 rockers? What do you guys think. Im looking to spend about 2k on it.

Check my sig.

We have alot of Aftermarket things for our 5.9s

Basic Bolt ons..
Headers (pre. PPH or Spintech or JM Longtubes)
3in single exhaust or 2.5 true duel with x pipe.
Cold Air Intake or Drop in K&N Filter
Throttle Body
M-1 2bbl
ect.

Higher End boltons
1.7 rr
Heads
Cam
Turbos
Supercharger
ect.

Tunes and Other **** you will need.
SCT if you go with a large cam
Stock Cam wit 1.7s and basic bolt ons, Mopar Perf. PCM
or Hypertech or Superchips Programmer.
If Running 1.7s you will need to cut the baffels out of the stock vavle covers, or buy a set of Mopar Perf. Vavle Covers Check my Gallery for pics of them and the rest of the bolt ons.

Do not buy the Chips that plug into the PCM itself.. they are worthless and reset themselfs over time and the PCM can overide them.

With the Bolt ons i have now.. without a tune, or cam or heads, im little over 300hp to the rear end running 93 octane, and should be around 360-370rwtq. Its enough to beat most ricers and stock hemis, all my friends have the GT Mustangs and they do give me a bit of a challenge its just whoever hooks first gets the win.. but they are all not stock. I raced my friend last night i got some new Shocks and Traction bars, and got him off the line from a 1900 punch but my tranny decided not to shift out of 1st so i shut down.. he has the 4.6 with High Flow Intake Manifold, Headers, Exhaust, Intake, TB, and its lowerd with better shocks.

You wont be touching Trans-ams or F-Bodys, but SS's 1500s and Mustangs, and bull**** like that you will most likley pull.. you main thing your going to have to worry about is traction.... light *** and to much power. Get some Good Shocks, Wider Rubber (i got 275/50/17s on mine) and some traction bars if you can. Will help alot.

As far as heads go... What kind of heads would be good? I looked on summit racing and didnt see any heads? I wanna make about what you are, maybea little more. What about the hand held tuners like superchips and those? Are they any good for a truck having motor work done. If i get a cam or heads will it still be good?

alot of people go with either 2.02 RT heads, or the Cast Aluminim heads (lighters) i think elderbrok or however you spell it makes them, the R/T Heads come in 1.92 i think or 2.02, I would go with 1.92s and if you need more out of them later you can have them bord out.

as for heads and cam.. you can use hand helds or PCMS, but with cam and heads, you will need timing and alot of tuning for it to run CORRECTLY with all the other mods. SCT is kinda new, and a bit expensive. But we now have what Chevy and Ford had forever.. they where able to put in outragous cams and have them tuned.. where as we where stuck to canned tunes and we really cound't go crazy with the cams without the PCM freaking the hell out, but now we can.. so watch out dodge is about to see the light..

$2k doesn't go anywhere near as far as it used to - prices have really skyrocketed on many of the most common parts.

If you were stuck at $2k, here's what I would start off with. These are good building block parts that will make good power, and will work well no matter how far you choose to go in the future. Please note these are new parts prices and do not necessarily constitute "installed prices". You may be able to save a few bucks if you can find something used, but it's relatively rare.

$659 - Spintech 1 3/4" Mid-length headers
$899 - Spintech dual 2.5" exhaust with Catalytic Converters ($749 w/o cats, if you don't have to worry about smog tests)
$350 - B&G Chrysler M1 PCM Flash
$100 - K&N 14" offset base plate, 14"x2.7" round filter, 14" Xtream lid

Later on down the road you would want to look into:

$650 - Mopar M1-2bbl intake manifold with installation kit
$380 - F&B 52mm billet throttle body

If you want to go bigger later on, you can do a heads/cam/rockers package. My personal viewpoint is that you should sit back and evaluate installing these parts as a balanced/optimized package rather than simply shoving in some 1.7 rockers or a simple camshaft by themselves.

$1350 - Edelbrock aluminum heads (out of the box - add more if you need porting)
$350 - Custom spec camshaft (210X?)
$600 - Roller Rockers w/Guideplates (1.7 ratio?)

Some other items to contemplate:

$400 - 4.10 or 4.56 gears with installation shim kit
$350 - M&H Drag Radials - gotta put that power to the ground
$400 - 2400-3200 stall torque converter

thanks, that seems like a good resonable plan. Ill probably wait and do the whole heads and cam next summer. I just broke the bank buying the truck so I only have about 2k to spend on it this summer. Already came with exhaust- true duals gibson, and I like it so its gunna stay. I wanna do the heads and k&n soon. If i go with a filter that is right over the intake instead of having a tube to a air box, will I have a check engine code come on?

no, it wont throwa code. but you won't get as good of quality air from an open element air filter that bolts on to the tb.
