Smart Mods
To all that reply i know similar threads like this may come up often but i would greatly appriciate it if some one could give me there advice on ideas. I would like to know what would be the smartest modification to do to my 1998 V6 club cab dakota. I was either looking at
-An air intake system
-Cam shaft from so cal dakotas.
-1.7 Roller rockers from scd's
-Any other sugestions go here.
It needs to be fairly cheep i am thinking at least 300 dollars or less. Like i said any and all advice would be appriciated.

i have a dakota 2001 v6 club cab totaly stock, 90000 miles. a few mounths back i made a mod to the air intake sensor in the intake manifold. i disconected the stock wiring, and hooked a potentometer 50k to the two wires going to the computer (5000 ohm = 100 deg air temp, 3500 ohm = 32 deg air temp ) . and mounted it on the gearshift lever. after a few weeks i could not see any change in mpg or power. so it didnt work for me, but it might work for you. if you get it to work, let me know what you did to get it to work. good luck moe7404@att.net

they probably know the most about magnum truck engines out of anyone that sells stuff online. also krcperformance.com.
what moe is talking about is reloacting the IAT sensor from the intake manifold to the air intake tube. basically, it will read colder air and give you a little more timing and more fuel, however after a while the o2's will lean it out and cut back timing anyway so it really doesnt always work.
if you're looking for cheap performance get a k&n FIPK (cold air intake). it is listed for the 5.2/5.9 but will fit the 3.9. after that you'll want to upgrade to a v8 throttle body, then cut off the stock muffler and put in a free flowing muffler.

RE: Smart Mods
first, you DO NOT want a throttle body spacer.. they dont do anything on fuel injected engines.
However, if you chose to get a v8 throttle body, you will need a new cable. The piece where the cable attaches to the linkage on the TB is different, so you will need a v8 cable.
And yes, by free flowing exhaust i mean an aftermarket muffler, you're better off with a cheap one like a dynomax super turbo, anything else is basically a waste of money because it's going to sound like a v6 no matter what you do.
when it comes to roller rockers, the difference between them and stock is that stock arent roller-tipped. 1.6 is stock and will get you maybe 5 horsepower, 1.7 will give you more lift and duration (like having a hotter cam) and will get you about 15 horsepower.

RE: Smart Mods
So if i throw a dynomax muffler on do i have to look for certain sizes for the inlets and outlets for the pipes. Do i need to get taller valve covers if i go with the 1.7 rockers. do you notice a considerable difference with the 1.7 rockers and a performance cam in a v6? thank you again for all the help and advice it really helps. Do i have to find out what rear end i have before i can even think about putting anyhting in my rear end. What is this auburn lsd rear end that i keep seeing throughout dodge forums. What are the pros to a stock. What are the cons.

toodge Rules sorry i didnt get back to you, iam 62 and forget a lot. what i did is to try to trick the computer into thinking the intake air temp is diff than it really is. it didnt work for me. but you might get it to work.. up date on 4.1 gears after 2 weeks, i really like it. at 35 mph it goes over into overdrive and the rpm drops to 1300 rpm. and it seams to pull it just fine.
