Can any one tell me where the blower motor is located at I have not torn into the dash yet but I can't find it no where so it must be in the heater box in the dash. It is a 99 Dakota. I can't get it to work I have checked all the fuses in the dash and under the hood I even switched the relay out with another one and it still don't work. Thanks for any and all help.

 

Yes it is in the dash inside the HVAC box.

You have no fan speeds at all?

Did you check the resistor pack unfortunately it’s under your cowl and a bear to get out and in but doable.

It could be your HVAC system controller but I don’t think so but worth looking at the controller is the three switches in your dash for the HVAC system it is easy to pop out and look at I did it in 15 minutes.

No I don't have any fan speed at all could that still be the resistor pack? So what would your opinion be? Is there a way to test the resistor pack or the control switch?

 

Well start with the easy steps

First was it working ever or it just craped out?

How was the fan speeds before it craped out?

Did you ever smell any burning wires?

Was the fan noisy?

Did you notice anything strange before it craped out?

What was working and not working before it craped out?



Unless the whole resistor pack burned up at one time or it came unplugged witch I dought probably not the resistor pack

Possible causes of an inoperative blower motor include:

1.Faulty fuse
2.Faulty blower motor circuit wiring or wire harness connectors
3.Faulty blower motor resistor
4.Faulty blower motor relay
5.Faulty voltage reduction relay
6.Faulty blower motor switch
7.Faulty heater-A/C mode control switch
8.Faulty blower motor

Possible causes of the blower motor not operating in all speeds include:

1.Faulty fuse
2.Faulty blower motor switch
3.Faulty blower motor resistor
4.Faulty blower motor relay
5.Faulty blower motor circuit wiring or wire harness connectors

 

It was working fine before it craped out just up and quit as far as I know it's my inlaws truck so i will have to check on everything else they didn't say any thing other than it just quit.

 

You say you checked the fuse and relay. I would say the next simple thing to look at is the A/C system controller in the dash you pop off the bezel or dash part around the system controller then you should see 4 screws pull those out and then pull the A/C controller out as far as you can but don’t pull on it too hard then check the back of it for burning of any kind or if it looks damaged in any way. I do think you can test the resistor pack through these power connectors that plug into the fan speed switch you will see many wires connected to it but I have not looked into that.

The switch all looked fine nothing that looked strange to me. No noises or smells came from it it just craped out. I heard from a parts store that there is a resistor under the dash somewhere right by the blower motor witch is suppose to control different speeds for the fan any info on where it is or how to get to it?

 

97 to 2000 had the Blower Motor Resistor outside under the cowl after 2000 it was inside the cab and they are a bitch to get to unless you have rubber arms PITA PITA PITA good luck.

98DAKAZ....I'm new to the forum, but, you seem very sharp on this issue. I recently purchased a 2000 Dakota Sport. I Knew going in that the evape core needed changed, as it leaked. I've almost completed that adventure. A week or so prior to tackling that I noticed that the blower had quit running. When the dash was out I looked at the swith, no sign of burning or damage, connections look good. Checked the blower motor, it does run, so that's not bad. Would replacing the resistor be the next logical step?
