Default Cluster swap or mod?

Let me start off by saying that search but I couldn't find the answer to this.

Want to either swap in a 2000 Durango instrument cluster or mod my Dakota cluster to work like the Durango's 7000rpm Tach.

What I have gathered it looks to be plug and play aside mileage won't transfer.

The guages look identical aside the Durango's higher review range.

Does anyone have insight?

If it matters, the Durangs was a 2000 magnum v8 4wd and i have a 2000 Dakota v6 2wd.

Why switch the gauges. Only thing you are gonna change is your tach will show 7k instead of 6k but its not gonna change the rpms of the truck. Seems pointless to me

Dealer says there are 9 different clusters between the Durango and Dakota that year. Basically they wouldn't say what could happen other then that the IP's are VIN antitheft'd and it may throw a code.

By saying this I may get alot of wow posts etc., but my plan is the to assemble the parts needed and in time and the by the grace of god stuff a Viper V10 into the Dakota. Problem is though that my province has made it tougher to do that. I have to period correct on emissions controls. So I'm having to look for a 2000 450hp block and all emission related equipment. The IP was so that the tach would be rev correct. Viper IP's rev limit at 6K, but go to 7K, so I was just trying to make sure that was covered before anything yet. I will start a project phase post once I'm further along but I'm first having to do some cosmetic body work before any major purchases.

Hey, if you are doing all that work do a custom gauge setup using Autometer gauges or something like that.

If the vipers rev is 6k then leave it at that. No need to do more work than you have to. Go to the junk yard and get a cluster and just try it if you want to.
