Default Replacing steering knuckle

Can someone tell me what size the spindle/hub nut is on my 2000 2wd Dakota?

I am not sure on a 2000, but my truck is a 2001 2-wheel drive and my spindle nuts are 35mm. Maybe they would both be the same size, both being 2 wheel drive, and I doubt Dodge made any changes in axles from one year to the other.

Thanks Jimmy. It is probably the same. That's bigger than any socket in my tool chest...

I bought my socket at Advance Auto Parts. 1/2" drive and I believe it cost about $12.00 or $13.00. If you are able to drive your truck, maybe drive it to a parts store and pop the center cap off. Then ask if the store guys will let you take the socket outside to test-fit before you buy it. Or you can just buy it and if it is the wrong size take it back in the store for an exchange. Most parts guys will let you test-fit before buying.

A trick I learned on mine was to leave the wheels on, leave the truck on the ground in gear (or park) with the parking brake on, then pop out the center caps and put the socket on the nut with a 1/2" breaker bar. Then you can stand on the bar and break the spindle nut loose. Then jack the truck up and set it on jack stands and go about removing the wheel, caliper, spindle nut etc as usual. It's a lot easier if you have an impact wrench though..

If you have a Harbor Freight nearby, it will be about $5.

I checked HF when I bought mine, the largest they had was 32mm, if I remember it right.

a 1-3/8 socket should also fit snugly, I believe.
