Default Thinking about getting another Dak

I may be able to pick up on a white 2000-2002 Dak somewhere around there pretty cheap. It has a 5.2 five speed with 3.92 gears and dual Maggies. Other then the rearend sounding like Jimmy Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner it looks pretty clean and sounds good. Just wondering if a couple you guys on here could tell me what you think it's worth before I jump the gun?

If it has a 5.2 it is older than a 2000. The last year for the 5.2 was in '99.

Or it could be a 5.9. Or If they don't know what they have it could be a 4.7.

Sorry I've been away from home working but thanks for the replies. The 0wner seems to honestly not know what he has but the emissions sticker under the hood says it's a 5.2 in it. At first he told me it had a 5.9 in it but I think he was just mistaken and never knew himself. He doesn't seem too knowledgeable about this thing. And I don't remember what year he said it was but hell he may not know the correct year himself. I understand that it could be anything but my gut feeling says it's stock because it looks so clean with no body work done. If it is a 5.2 are they any good? Never heard of anything but a 4.7 and 5.9 so I don't have any knowledge of them....and how much hp are they? How are these engines compared to the 4.7 and 5.9? I'm going to shoot an offer to him next time I see him and hope he takes it. He's asked me twice to buy it lowering the price by a thousand the last time. I don't want to describe it in too much detail or say how much just in case he see's this or take a chance of someone else jumping on it. I'll let you guys know how it goes within a couple of weeks.

Never heard of a 318?
Unbelievable.
But, the 318/5.2 is as tough and reliable as the 360/5.9.
Preferably I like the 360 as its more cubic inches but a 318 has nothing wrong with it.
How is it on fuel mileage? Better than the 360 but not by much. Lol.

Look at the 8th position in the VIN. N=4.7L, Y = 5.2L, Z = 5.9L

The hood might have been replaced which brings up the question of why?

like rduck said, 5.2 is a damn good motor. not as much power as the 5.9 but just as good. you should look at the front end pretty good thou. ball joints are the dakota/durangos' weak spot. if they are good, you should still figure on changing them in the future. so keep that in mind.

Thank you for your reply as well as everyone else. That 70 AAR in my avatar is a 340 that I built with full race specs including 12.5 to 1 venola pistons/Kellogg crank with .003 race clearances. So no pun intended but I know what the old school 318, 340 and 360 is. I built a few of them drilling the right side lifter galley out to 5/8" installing a 5/8 copper tubing through the block with 1/8 holes to oil my solid lifters. You loose a lot of oil pressure there because the engines were designed for hydraulic lifters. The copper tubing with 1/8 hole reduces the wasted oil going to the top of the block hence keeping it at the lower end where it's needed the most. I learned that from Ed Hamburger who owned Direct Connection back in the early 80's and helped design my engine. But this looks to be like an overhead cam engine. It looks nothing like the old school 318, 340, 360. Actually that is the only thing I don't like about this truck because I no nothing about this engine specs and capability.

Alright, I've been looking at utube videos and it looks like this engine could be a 4.7 ho. If so I guess the engine or emissions sticker has been swapped out. I'm going to go look at this truck right now and get back to you guys. EDIT: I went there and the truck was there but he didn't answer the door so I'll have to wait. I noticed there's a dent on the tailgate now that wasn't there before too...oh well.
