Looking at the kits on that site they look like they plug into the existing housing? I was under the impression you needed a certain housing to properly use HIDs.

I run myDepot VVME HID Fogs.

Yes, by DOT laws, you do have to change housings. 85% of people don't. That's why I have halogen heads (in crystal clearCorner housings off ebay) and HID fogs. Police complain, i turn them off. No complaints yet though.

In all the years I've had hid's I have yet to run them in an hid projector. A lot of guys will give you crap for doing that but if you aim the lights down a little you won't have a problem. I'm lucky to get flashed a handful of times in a year. Heck I get flashed more in my dads challenger with factory hid's than I do in my truck.

I guess HIDs are something to think about, do the stock housings work well enough with them?

The reason I'm looking for better light is because of this:

This is the crap we put up with in winter. Now imagine trying to drive through that at night, it's scary and the stock lights just don't cut it.

Me myself, I would be highly nervous about HID's and snow. Reason being same as why you dont use your high beams in fog- the material can refract and reflect the light and blind you or other drivers. Now that said, HID's in stock housings SCATTER light unlike projector housings which FOCUS the light. I actually prefer that for fogs, as it lets me see from ditch to ditch close, but it's a very fast taper to darkness (though I could probably drive with no primary lights if I had to). Whereas projectors are a very cropped beam of light and field of illumination, not much wider than the road itself, and can illuminate probably a quarter mile away if unobstructed.

Here in texas, having wildlife cross the road is the norm, thus why I prefer having the wide (albeit slightly illegial) coverage of the stock housing, especially when combined with the halogen high beams. The "best" combination IMO would be stock housing HID fogs and projector housing primaries.

I see your point and I see how that could be an issue. I do have stock fog lights on the truck. Just looking around the MyDepot site they don't have HIDs in 894 but they do have them in 880/881/893. I think 881 does fit stock fog light housings.

I live in the mountains of pa so we see a lot of snow. I never had a problem with them reflecting off the snow or causing you not to see any less. I think I might have a vid or 2 of them at night in the snow.

All 880/890 series are the same I think, just different connectors, straight vs right angle, maybe bulb length. Not positive though. I think I have 893's in mine?

Well at this point now I'm still leaning to IPFs on a bar as auxiliary lighting. But I've been thinking one way to get some better lighting might be to replace the stock housing. I've been looking at this one:

Also, HIDs in the fog light housings is an interesting idea, I'll have to think about that.

Depo is the preferred brand. Mine are crystal black clear corners.

If you go to this topic, I have beam patterns posted: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...d-back-up.html
