soo i bought my truck (1997 dak sport 4x4 5.2 5 speed nv3500) a month or two ago and i recently found out the ac is just blowing hot air soo i asked my neighbor (who owns a shop here in town) whats up with it and he said he didnt know but we could hook it up to his ac machine at his shop and try to charge it soo we took it over therre and he hooked it up performed a leak test that came back as a fail soo we check all the ac lines for leaks with yellow glasses and a uv flash light that is supposed to show leaks as green and didnt find anything soo we tried removing the schrader valve i think thats how you spell it to check if the seals were bad on it and we couldnt get it out so im asking if you buys might be able to tell me if its removable or if that is likely not the problem and if it isnt removable where can i find the hose that connects to the top of the ac compressor or just if you have any ideas of what it might be

 

The one place that's hard to find a leak at is the evaporator, since it's inside the HVAC box.

My first place to look is almost always RockAuto.COM - which has this http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...4&parttype=916 for a 1997 5.2L Dakota.

Yes the Schrader valves come out replace both high and low side.

Your leak could be were the orifice tube is installed or at the condenser were it hooks up most leaks are at these two points and hard to spot. One other spot on older models is at the A/C Receiver Drier/Accumulator were it snaps into the firewall/Evaporator that spot works lose and is hard to see.

Evaporators usually don't get leaks I would look at all other spots first were they snap into the Drier/Accumulator yes.

I would replace every seal you can then see how things work out

I would replace the A/C Receiver Drier/Accumulator and your orifice tube you also will need a 3oz. shot of Pag 100 oil for the system if not a shot get a bottle of Pag 100 and poor 3oz. in the Drier/Accumulator or you will burn the A/C up as replacing the Drier/Accumulator takes 3oz. of oil with it inside.

thank you 98 dakaz ill check all that out and its the one thats closest to the ac compressor that wont come out my neighbor (the shop owner) said i might have to get a whole new hose system the one on top of the compressor to recharge it im not ac savvy so ill run this info by him and try to learn everything i can

 

That should be the low side


I would try very hard to get it out a new suction line will run you $150 its a dealer only part don't try used I tried 2 both were damaged inside the port as junk yards tend to jam a screwdriver in the port to drain the Freon damaging the threads.


Put the extractor on the valve then use some pliers on the extractor to get leverage an extract it.
