Default Engine problem

Having trouble with engine bolting up to tranny. Engine sitting on motor mounts but their seems to be a gap between tranny and engine. Could tranny have shifted when taking engine out?

Welcome to the forum Dakota24.

We need more information. What engine and transmission? If a manual, did you pull the clutch?

transmission shouldn't shift backwards since it's bolted at the crossmember, but it is a soft mount so it could have moved 1/4" or so. Were you able to get the transmission lined up on the dowels at the back of the block?

Did you remove the torque converter? Are you sure it is fully seated on the transmission? You need to push on it while you turn it to get it to seat. Even if you didn't remove it, it could have slid forward.

No. It's just touching the engine.

Are the holes lined up at least? Maybe use some long bolts long enough to catch and pull them together?

Tranny my sag a little. Place a jack under the tranny pan and use a piece of plywood to even out the weight so you don't put a hole in the pan.

Jockey the tranny and engine till they are level and make sure the dowels line up. I actually punched the dowels out on mine since they were so rusty. 2 mins on the grinder and poppies em back in. Good as new.

The torque convertor should sit about 3/4" behind the front of the bellhousing. If it came forward any on the input shaft, you'll have to spin it a bunch of times while pushing back. Should pop 3 times (stator, input shaft, front pump). Then line the bellhousing up on the dowel pins and slide them together.
