Started coming apart halfway to austin this weekend. Made it down there and back but wasn't fun.

NAPA wanted 155 for the timken bearing and Auto-zone wanted 135. Hoping they can get a spindle nut. ( 185 ft-lbs )

 

Helps if the store can get the hub nut as well. Taking an extra couple hours.

Also, O'R does NOT carry Timken.

 

I never understood that. You're supposed to replace the nut on the 4x2 but they don't supply it with a new bearing and the parts store never has them.

Dare I say "dealer" for the nut? It might get you moving faster.

 

I ordered 2 extra Nuts from rockauto last time I replaced my Hub just to be sure.


Weird was I hand cranked the nut on without a cheater bar then used the torque wrench and it was already at 185 freaked me out I was like?? how did I do that.

 

Napa here sells the nut separately, cost is about $7.00 each if I remember it right. The local Dodge Boys want $19.00 and some change for the exact same spindle nut. If you can get Moog they come with a new nut in the box with the bearing. 3 year warranty too, plus you can save money if you buy online from Advance and use one of their online discount codes. I learned the hard way not to buy cheaper bearings. Moog so far has been very good.

$194 for hub and nut. sheesh.

Had to beat the old hub off, and the back bearing came apart- rollers went everywhere. It's a dark tinge of charred steel brown so it was definitely time to go. The inner race is still stuck on the spindle. Any good ideas on how to yank it of short of cutting it?

 

Strange I looked on rockauto and they only have one available it says MOPAR $140 never seen it before. They used to have Timken Hubs for around $90 if I remember and about 5 other brands now only MOPAR very strange.

Hub shortage????

China dragging its heals on parts?

Can you get a gear puller or Pitman Arm puller on it?

I was able to beat it off using channelocks, screwdriver, and BFH. Already got everything put back together.
