Default Just sharing my plennum fix so far.. PIC HEAVY

So I'm in the process of doing the plenum fix and timing chain upgrade.. doing a little every evening after work..

so far its been really smooth sailing.. every bolt about came off like super lubed with KY Jelly or something.. i have had no issues.. Not sure if that just means someone was in here recently before i got the truck 4 years ago or more or if the engine has just been really taken care of.

she's got 157K on the OD. cant really see any blown seals yet.. everything looks intact.. but it does look like the intake seals are pretty bad off...

Only thing that really stuck out to me was the carbon build up on the valves.. looks like I need to do some de-carbon job on them..

For 157K on OD i don think they are that bad off.. i expected worse..

Any of your experienced guys wanna look through these pics and point out anything I'm overlooking that needs my attention feel free

Not familiar with the 5.2 or the plenum fix. What is the problem with it? Looking forward to seeing how your chain is. I've got 253K on this 4.7 and I know it was run low on oil at one point. Maybe not till the light turned on but low, nevertheless. I'm already past the point of suggested chain replacement. I hear no weird sounds or any problems that suggest the chain is going.

4.7 did not have the plenum issue. Only the LA engines, V6 and both V8's. Something about them using dissimilar metals for the intake plenum and belly pan and it would warp, causing a huge vacuum leak, sucking oil into the intake, fouling #8 cylinder, plugging the cat and cracking the block.

You can read about it in the plenum sticky in the 2nd gen Ram section,

You may want to use an engine flush or a thinner strong cleaning oil for 2 oil changes to get the little sludge you have out.

Thanks Dak; I've got a fair amount of pooling there in the center but honestly I've been kinda running around just putting fresh oil in for a bit.. truck mainly sits in the drive way and there was a time when i was looking at other options i was well lets say letting her go.. but I suspect someone using cheap *** oil and gas in here before i even got her..

So now i'm up and roaring to get her fixed and do some things to her so Ill be taking better care of her oil change wise. LOL.

LOL, lemme guess, you think Diamler had input on the 4.7 design. Nope, it was all Chrysler. Not that it makes it any easier.

LOL Still a german designed engine.. just like new dodges are Fiat..
GM is government motors...

HAHA..

On a serious note though i checked the back of the plennum and there was a hell of an oil leak i never knew about back there from the gasket..

RTV ok on for the front and back of the main assembly right like an old ford? the hughes guide says no to the other gaskets.
