Default High Idle Issue 99 Dakota (5-Speed)

Help...I'm puzzled. Driving to work this morning, shifted into 1st gear, as soon as it hit 2000 RPMs on the tach, it sounded like it was revving upwards of 4-5000 RPMs. Shifted to 2nd, same thing, 2000 RPMs sounded like it was revving at 4-5000...same at 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears. Any ideas on the culprit? Scared my engine was going to blow up...

I moved your post into a new thread.

You say "it sounded". Was the engine actually revving faster? A slipping clutch can certainly cause that to happen.

It's not really an idle issue from your description.

I believe the engine is revving faster. It certainly feels and sounds like it is maxing out in the red until I shift. Although, now that you mentioned it, I did have the clutch looked at in March of this year; bearing issue...

If it was a slipping clutch, wouldn't it be sloppy when shifting into gear? Or make unsettling noises?

I think you're hearing the clutch fan engage in the heat of summer.

It might be the fan making noise. Is the RPM actually increasing or not?

A slipping clutch may not make any noise - at first.
