Default 1998/2003 fuel tank swap?

My 1998 standard cab 3.9L 5-speed daily driver has a 15 gallon fuel tank. I drive over 30 miles to work each way, so it seems like I'm always filling the tank, even though I average between 19-20 MPG. It just so happens that last year I bought a 2003 Club Cab 3.9L a/t as a parts truck, and it would likely have the 22 gallon tank, right? Will it work to just swap out the tank and fuel pump/sending unit from the 2003 into the '98 or are they not compatible?

Dan may know the exchanges, I don't. But yes you likely have the 22. Crawl under and see.

If it makes you feel any better, here's my fuelly log...

Oh, I'm not complaining about my MPG's. The truck has 237,000 miles on it, for crying out loud! It would just be nice to make less frequent stops, that's all.
You said to crawl underneath to check the capacity; is the fuel capacity stamped into the tank itself? And who exactly is Dan?

The tanks arent stamped, but the size is physically about a foot longer for the 22.

Ok, so the big question remains; if the '03 does have the large tank, can it be swapped to the '98?

Take a look at these.... It looks like the later 22 gal will fit the earlier trucks, but not vice-versa. I'd try it just to be sure.

Thank you. I sort of figured the tank would drop in, but won't it require the use of the newer fuel pump as well? That's what has me wondering a little, as in the compatibility of the fuel and electrical connectors and whether or not the newer pump will work in the older truck.

Connectors should be 5/16 and 3/8 standard pushlock and hoseclamp on the filler. Methinks the pumps should be similar/close.

Sorry, I said this wrong, earlier. According to the compatibility list, the earlier 22 gal will fit the later truck but not vice-versa. Makes no sense though. If one fits the other, they should interchange. So, I'd try it.
