Default Transmission Removal

Quick question, last time I removed my Transmission to replace clutch I removed my exhaust which is a pain in the *** to get those 2 bolts off the flanges. They are in terrible spots to get in there. Is it needed to remove the Exhaust to drop Transmission or no?

I can't see how'd you'd get it out without removing the exhaust. The bellhousing is one piece with the tranny.

The FSM says to disconnect the exhaust.
