O'K it's been a while, been waiting on an aftermarket e-fan installation kit, finally, 10 days later, it's here. The aftermarket e-fan, and, controller that I got from a guy that was parting out a blown up Durango was too cheap to refuse. I also got other parts such as cruise control, steering wheel, overhead console, ect. I'm hoping the wiring harness points are there to facilitate upgrading. That will be numerous new threads, I'm sure, anyway. Installing the aftermarket e-fan was straight forward, pushing those plastic retainers through my perfect radiator was a bit uncomfortable, and the mounting bolt for the left side of the A/C condenser stripped out. I was worried about vibration ruining the condenser, but, I used an extra e-fan mounting strap to secure it. On the controller the e-fan is not on all the time when the A/C is on, only when temp is above 160. It also is not switched to the key, so, it runs after the truck is cut off if the temp is above 160, so more work adjusting needs to be done. Also, I cut the connector with wire from the old fan and left it hanging so I can diagnose the original e-fan circuit in hopes of returning it to OEM. I just finished this about 10 minutes ago, so, I'll test drive it to the store in a bit. We will see.

So far so good, got a couple hundred miles on it, comes on when it should, cuts off when it should, sometimes 5 minutes after the car is parked. Seems, I'm not loosing coolant, I.E. water for now. I am concerned about the rust that is appearing in the coolant system. Seems too soon, but, I put in a gallon of vinegar, hopefully to abate the rust. The system holds 15.3 quarts according to the specs, damn near 4 gallons. If the results hold I will put in a couple gallons of Zerex G-05. We will see

Flush out that vinegar first, and do a 50/50 of Zerex and distilled water.

Thumbs down

I still cant belive we went through all this crap and you didn't notice something as obvious as (I lost coolant because it blew the plastic connector on the engine side of the fill cap tee which separated the hose losing all coolant).

That should have been very easy to see and understand?

I knew something didn't add up.

Well, I must be an idiot, because I have no idea what you are saying. Is it, I'm an idiot, or, we wasted time because no one saw that comment or what. I'm truely confused. The blown out plastic connector did not indicate the e-fan was out. A whole host of reasons including blown head gaskets could have caused that. I'm sorry if I wasted your time. It was a process, we went through it, and, I appreciate it.

So you dont think the blown connector had anything to do with the original problem of overheating?

OK I see

Idiot I didn't say but observation skills may need some work

HaHaHa, Yes, I did think that was all there was to it. I felt confident in fact, so, I repaired the hose and sent the boy on his way. It overheated again, and, again, which lead me here. And, apparently, a proper repair. Oh, thanks again. PS,How bout do me a favor and answer my clutch question so I can order a new disc kit, Thanks again

I think you may still have a problem as an efan is not needed on a 3.9 to keep your engine cool if your clutch fan is working properly. So why is the extra cooling fan needed? Im not sure why you never replaced the water pump as you said you have a new pump ready to go? You should find out why you need a second cooling fan.
