2003 Dakota SXT - Weight of Leer Cap
Hi - 2003 Dakota SXT with V6 and auto trans. About 68000 low miles, I have had the truck about 6 months. Overall Truck sits fine with the bed about an inch or two higher than the front - so that is a reasonable truck look. The glove box code states Heavy Duty suspension, whatever that adds. I know probably more leafs.
My question is I have the chance to get a Fiberglass Leer Cap - used of course. Even with the Heavy Duty suspension I have pretty quickly sunk the rear with any load, you know mulch bags, decorative stone ( I know stone is really heavy.).
Do any of you know about how much a 6.5 Foot Leer cap weighs? If it will sink the bed below level or close, are there any shocks that would essentially let me cheat and get back to unloaded height. I know that's not the real job of shocks but just asking. I have all original shocks on the truck.
Thanks for you input
Mike

Leer cap weighs that much?
Not sure what brand my 6.5 cap is, but I store it on a furniture dolly sitting on one end, and my wife and I lift it off the dolly and set it on the bed rails whenever I need it. Piece of cake.
I think mine is aluminum, so the OP might want to look for something like that instead.
