Default Oil Pump Questions

Hi All! Trying to get info on Melling oil pumps, there are 2 choices; regular and Hi volume. The question is will the hi volume pump fit/clear a stock oil pan...5.2 V-8 or will I have to stick with the standard unit? any input would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you

Have you seriously opened the oil passages?

The engine builders around here tend to stick with regular oil pumps, unless they're building a super-high-RPM motor.

One side effect is that a high volume pump will wear the back of the cam / the distributor bushing (or intermediate shaft bushing, don't remember which way the LA and Magnum do it) faster. This is a reoccuring theme in the "We fix it!" threads on Car Craft or Hot Rod magazine.
