Fuel pump ,,, fuel pressure,,, IDK
Hi all been some time time since i been on miss reading up on stuff, but i do have a problem 2000 extended cab 4.7lt 248.000 miles, thinking my fuel pump is going bad, i can here it turn on when am under it and someone turns the key but it does not have that nice hmm as before, truck will start run for about a min then dies off hrd starting after that. when running at higher rpm's it will die off hard starting after. i changed out the fuel relay cheapest part, still does same thing. bad thing is if i do have to change the pump it has a fuel tank, i read that it can be done if the bed is removed any truths to that. and other thoughts
thanks all

Borrow a fuel pressure gauge if you don't have one and check to see that the fuel pressure is dropping off right before it stalls. If it's not, then a fuel pump is not going to solve your problem.
As far as whether to drop the tank or pull the bed, it depends on what equipment you have available. I don't have a lift in my garage, but I do have an overhead electric hoist, so I opted to take the bed off. I don't think it took more than about an hour to do the whole job, start to finish. I've also done them by dropping the tank, and that's almost as easy.

I'll state that when I did my fuel pump, I emptied the bed out, took the tailgate off, and my stepson and me (first time) or my nephew and me (second time - screwed up and didn't fix the fuel sending unit when I replaced the pump!) could walk the 8' longbed off my 1988 back to work on the gas tank and forward. Just the two of us.
And I'm a computer geek, my idea of "heavy lifting" is a 4-DVD movie pack *grins*
