Default Steering slop 97 dodge dakota sport 4wd with a 318

Need some help/advice please. Im having some slop i guess is the best way to put it in my steering. Tie rods ball joints are all ok. What i need to know is how do i test to see if its the gearbox or the intermediate shaft? Thanks for your time

Welcome to the forum Daren.

It's always going to seem sloppy compared to the 2wd or a later model year 4wd with the rack and pinion.

It could be the steering gear but check the idler arm and pitman arm and all the linkages thoroughly.

In my experience the intermediate shaft usually does not get loose, it gets tight and binds. You could mark it though and watch for any play.

I will double check those in the morning and see if i missed anything. Nothing is popping nothing pulls it drives true just alot of slop or play in the steering
