Hey everyone,

Bought myself an 03 Dakota a few days ago. It's in incredible shape, not a single thing wrong with it. However, both interior lights (those between the driver/front passenger, as well as the light above the rear bench seats) are ALWAYS on, albeit at a very dim level, can only be seen at night. As well, the third brake light above the rear window has the same very dim light (it is white light like the interior) at all times. As far as I can tell there is no way for me to shut them off. Is this normal? It doesn't seem to be draining the battery.

Pop one of the covers and check to see if LED bulbs are installed.

 

Does rolling the scroll wheel on the light controller make any change in the brightness or turn them off?

 

No. Rolling the scroll wheel will dim/brighten dash lighting, until the highest setting, at which point it turns on the overhead interior lights.

 

Then I'm with Dodgevity, see if they were swapped to LED's.

 

They have in fact been swapped to LED's. What should my next course of action be? I would imagine installing conventional lights would solve the problem. It looks like I could install a resistor and solve the problem too. I haven't paid particularly close attention to the battery, would these lights even be enough for noticeable drain?

 

Typical LED lights pull very little power. Your truck could probably sit for months and still start up just fine, given nothing else is pulling from the battery.
