When to do tune-up on 2004 3.7L
So i get a letter in the mail from the dealership saying i need a engine tune-up and oil change ....the truck has 30,000km(18,900miles) mixed city/highway 50/50 on it, the oil is super clean and just had a mechanical inspection done when i had the tires rotated 3 weeks ago, are they trying to suck money out of me..... can i change the spark plugs and do a basic tune-up my self.....i have done plugs before in other vehicles.

I would hope you have been changing the oil every 3000 miles religiously, but if you havn't had an oil change in quite some time, it would be wise. As far as spark plugs go, you should be good on the factory plugs at least till 60,000 miles, and maybe 100,000 (check in your owner's manuel under maint. to find out for sure...it will give you a detailed maint. schedule. And most importantly...yes, your dealership will try to sucker money out of you, but if you trust your shop manager/mechanic, he should be able to lay out a plan for you to follow as your truck ages.

Basicly all there doing is following the maintinance shedual outlined in your owners manual. You could have been there a month ago to get it done but they will still send you a letter because the milage/average months is up. And yea, they will will open up your wallet and take all your money while your turned around drinking their free coffee.
