Default RE: power programers?

I just got a Superchips MAX MicroTuner for my 99 Dak 5.2 and it has made a huge difference. Previously I was running a Jet stage 1 plug in chip which gave a noticeable gain in low end torque and HP. The Superchips allows 4 settings: stock, 87 octance, towing performance and performance. It also raised the top end speed limiter, rpm limiter and for the first time I was able to recalibrate the speedo to match my 32"BFG tires. I paid $260 for a used one on ebay and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I run the towing performance level which means I can still pull a good size load without pinging. It will now light up the big tires off the line (w/posi) and chirp them when it shifts which is something it hasn't done since mounting the 32x11.5x15's.

I just bought the Max Micro Tuner for my 3.9. I am working on my 1st tank of gas but I can say that the shift points are much smoother having programmed the 87 octane program. I'm going to stay with 87 octane for awhile before I re-program to the 91 octane program. I paid $325 for my tuner, worth the money.

i saw somewhere that superchips locks their tuners to vin numbers after they are used making it not very usefull if you buy it used. is this true?

Not the model I bought used. As long as the previous owner returns the vehicle to "stock" configuration, all vin related saves are erased. On page 14 of the owners manual it says
"return the original vehicle back to stock before using on a different vehicle". What this prevents is the ability to tune several vehicles to the 87 or performance levels. As long as the original owner returned the vehicle to stock, it should be OK. I had no problems with the one I bought on ebay. It also reads and clears codes too.

Fenderbender, you WILL see a very noticeable increase in HP and Torque. The biggest gains are at the Peformance setting, but you loose at least half of your towing capabilities and have to run 91+ octane only. I use my Dakota for occasional towing so I use the Towing Performance setting. Still a big improvement over stock or the Jet stage 1 I was using. I suggest you experiment with the different settings. Also say "yes" to the raise RPM limiter. It isnt a huge increase in upper RPM, maybe 200-400 rpm, but it makes a big difference when you need that extra umph for passing. I always felt my Dak short shifted below 5 grand before.
Lil, there isn't a listing for your model on the Superchips webpage, you might want to send them an inquiry. They have tuners for 06 hemi's, don't know why they would cut off 4.7s at 2003.
