4x4 floor shifter loose (flappin') how to fix?

can you still engage it into 4 wheel drive or does it do absolutely nothing? because if you can then sorry i cant help ya. but if it doesnt go into 4 wheel then it sounds like your linkage is broken somewhere you'll have to just look and see if you can find the trouble spot.

Will not engage.
Is this an easy fix?
It's my father in laws truck...and I can fix it...if I know what I'm looking at...I just hate for him to spend the money...cause he'll take it to the dealership....

just crawl underneath the truck find where the linkage goes through and find out what piece is broken. the dealer will definetly @#$% you over for new parts they did when the same exact thing hapened to my dads 92 ford f150 trying to charge him like 360 bucks for the part. he found it in the junkyard for about 100 i think it shouldnt be too hard to fix though
