excellent maintenance and a few modifications. most important is the driving style though. i can actually get better mileage then my cruise control does. the under-drive pulley, CAI and muffler put my at 22MPG on the freeway. like ive said before in other posts, i only do mods that will increase my efficiency, power is only a side affect. i dont run synthetics yet but they help too. i also have a leer bed shell that i think helps my aerodynamics a bit. the V6 is a bit underpowered for the dakota and it works too hard to get good gas mileage in a truck this heavy

 

Yea we run full synthetic in all our mopars, and the 4.7 has FM 40 and gibbson ceramic headers, and there is no way we are getting 22mpg

 

even the week I was at the track and did like 10 passes I still got over 15mpg on that tank. your cat could be plugged or a sensor might be out of whack.

but my 88 3.9 gets around 14-15 mpg. the 3.9 is a strong motor but its just a lil underpowered for a 4x4 truck.

 

what would be the best gearing to have for 32x11.50's with my truck?

 

3.93's or what ever it is. then you wont rev as high on the highway like 4.10's do.

 

i've got a 3.55 rear end right now would that kill fuel mileage with a 32

 

i guess i have to do a total tune up because i am lucky if i am getting 11mpg right now

getting even close too 20 would be excellent

 

My 2003 4.7 4x4 Quad Cab only gets 11-13 mpg.

I have 265 75R 16 All Terainson8" wheels.
K&N CAI
Magnaflow 18" Exhaust.
But other than that everthing else is stock.

It was recently tuned up at 36,000 miles,I only put Mobil Synthetic Oil in it, and I always run REGULAR unleaded gas. I just put the CAI & Magnaflow on it a week ago. I went through my first tank of gas, and found thatit didn't do any better in the mpg catagory (12 mpg). Half of that was Highway, and the other half was city (about average for me).

Should I take it to a Dodge service shop, and have them check it out? What could possibly be causing it tobe this bad??? HELP[&o]

FYI: When I first got it (new) in 2003, it was averaging around14-16 mpg with stock wheels & tires.A month after I got itI put on 275 75R 16 Radial Mud TA's, andit went down to 10-12 mpg! When those tires wore out a year ago, I put on the 265's & it wentup to 11-13 mpg.
