Default 2006 Durango - No brake lights - Will not shift out of park

Last week, I was driving the Durango home in the rain. I noticed that it did not down shift when pulling a hill. After slowing, the Durango would not shift back up. Once parked and cut off, it would not come out of park. Also noticed that the brake lights did not come on. I could disconnect the interlock on the steering columns and could get it to come out of park. I replaced the brake light switch this morning, but did not fix the issue. I checked the fuses for the brakes according to the owner's manual but did not see any problems. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Check neutral safety switch. The brake pedal switch has an inter-lock to it and I've seen them take out the brake lights. Check any transmission fuses while your at it since part of your problem does sound electronic, shifting up/down. Almost gives the impression trans went into limp mode.

I have the same issue on my '05 Durango. Did you find a solution?

Thumbs up Yes

After replacing the brake light switch with no success I called my mechanic who came to my house since I couldn't move it. It ended up being related to a short in the trailer hitch wiring harness that kept blowing the fuse. Was a PITA to figure out. Took him about 3 hours to trouble shoot it.
