Default Engine Oil Light Blips On and Stalls

Hello,

I have a 2004 Dodge Durango Limited with the 5.7L Hemi, with 70,000 miles. Twice now in about two weeks the oil light blipped on, and stalled out. As soon as I turned the vehicle off, and back on, it worked fine for about a week before doing it again.

Both times it happened going up a hill about half a mile from my house, shortly after starting. The oil has been changed regularly, every 3000 miles.

Any idea on what this might be? Luckily, it's still under warranty. Plan on taking it in, but I always like to go in a bit educated on what it could be.

Thanks,

Will

Worn oil pump bearing.
Worn relief valve spring allowing backflow on the pump.
Bad filter.
Wrong oil type.
Bad sending unit.

But check the oil level!

Thanks Hydrashocker. I will bring this up with the dealer. I can confirm oil level is good.

Hey Hydrashocker,

Took it in this morning... they fiddled with it for a bit and got it to do the light and stall for them. Turns out the sending unit was bad. Luckily it wasn't too expensive!

Thanks for your advice.

So does that mean these motors are equipped with LOW oil shut-down protection or was the stalling just a fluke?

Not sure on the cut off but that's what it sounds like.

Great that you got it!
