Question 160amp Alternator

Hey Durango peeps, Ram PU driver here with a question for you.

Durangos were available with a HO 160amp alternator for the 4.7 and the 5.9. Were they the same alternator or different?

I know the one spec'd for the 5.9 will drop in on my '01 5.2 1500 but don't know about the 4.7.

Also, does anyone know the idle amp output on these?

Thanks!

Found out that the 4.7 and the 5.9 are not interchangeable, still would like to know what the idle amp rating is ....

136 Amp for the 5.9L

But you are talking about the 1st generation Durango and not the 5.7L Hemi that's in the Hemi.

Probably am, you'd know Durangos better than I. You could get a 160amp for the 5.9L as part of a "police package" that fits the 5.2L V8 as well, though it was never offered as an option for the truck.

Question: What year model did the Durango go from 1st to 2nd generation?

Thanks

Gen1 1998-2003
Gen2 2004+

If you come across concrete data on that 160amp alt, please post it up for us. TIA.

I've never seen anything that was factory 160 amp. Sounds like a wire wrap to me with a custom shop.

+1. Never on the 1998-2000s. That's why I asked him for detailed specs. Nothing came from Dodge that I am aware of at all on those years... Police Package or not. HAS to be an aftermarket item.

Since this thread is in the Gen2 section, perhaps he is referring to a Gen2? BUT... Gen2s never had 5.9s or 5.2s.

http://www.maniacelectricmotors.com/al20du5160am.html

There's a link to one online, my local parts man can get them as well. I had a chance to get a brand new in the box from Mopar alternator on Ebay but missed the end of the auction.

Not rewound, not aftermarket.

OEM 160 amp alt. for the 5.9V8, 2001-2003 Durango

edit: sorry for leaving you all hanging, been busy.

Thanks for the link.

I never doubted they were available aftermarket, just not Mopar stocker branded as the 160amp for the 5.9L 1998-2000s.
