Navigation Zoom function

I just bought a used 2005 Durango limited. And i've stumbled through finding out how to operate most of the navigation options. Except for the zoom control. Right above the joystick it has a pic of a magnifying glass with the + and -, and says zoom. I've tried all i can do to get it to zoom, but to only fail. The joystick also doesn't work all that great, it will toggle to the left, and up easily, but to get it to toggle to the right and down you have to press somewhat hard on it. So question is how do you get it to zoom? Thanks.
