Default "Chrome" grill bubbling

While washing the mag chloride off my '06 Durango today, I noticed the "chrome" was bubbling on the grill. Any recommendations on either replacing the grill or otherwise fixing this?

I think I can get it replaced under warranty (have 2 months before 5 years is up), but have to find out about that. I will be taking my D into service in a couple of weeks to have the fuel system/tank tested (fueling overspill issue), and will find out then if warranty will cover it.

But, if warranty doesn't cover it, I just want to find out what options I have. If it's not expensive, and I can get a better grill, I'd opt to pay for a decent one and replace it myself.

Thanks.

It is just Chrome plated plastic. Just replace it. Unbolt, replace, rebolt. Under warranty is even better.

Putco has aftermarket grilles that are polished aluminum:

Thank you for the information, IndyDurango and fascistfaction. Sounds like it is an easy thing to do myself if I have to. Hopefully, warranty will take care of this.

Thanks, again!

My 07 has the same issue. I think it's from sand/gravel creating small holes and then it just forms bubbles. I found a replacement outer shell for $200. For now I'm leaving it and will probably strip the "chrome" and paint it to match the truck.

Don't "Strip" it, just buff it up so primer sticks, prime and paint. Done.

Even us guys with painted grilles get the same road debris chips. Sux.

I'd be fine with debris chips, but the "chrome" (or whatever it is) is actually bubbling. Looks terrible, and dealer said it would cost $465 to replace (not covered by warranty, which I actually knew). Needless to say, I'll be replacing it myself.

Any recommendations on a brand or place to buy a new one? Putco doesn't make one for Durango's. Or, would it be just easier to peel the chrome off and paint it?

You can find chrome Gen1 grilles on eBay all the time. Check there for the Gen2

Yep, thanks for the tip again. Bought a replacement shell for less than $80 shipped.

And for the price, you can replace it annually if need be!
