Default Cam Positioning Sensor

Hi all,
First, thanks to everyone who helped me with the TPS issue I had last fall. $50 part and all was well.
A month ago, my engine light came on and the code was "PO344 - camshaft sensor intermittant Bank 1 Sensor 1". When the light was on, the Durango 'hicupped' when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. When the light was off, all was well. The light does not stay on, its random. When I took it in to our dealer, they insisted it was the sensor, and $150 later, it was changed. The light came on again, with the same code. Again, it was random -off & on. My dealer now wants to explore the problem at $100/hr shop rate. Thanks, but no thanks.
Any suggestions ? A friend of mine (backyard mechanic) thought it might be the wires connecting the sensor to the computer.
Any help would be appreciated.
2005 Durango, 4.7L, about 80,000 miles (127,000kms).
