this might sound crazy man but check you fan behind the radiator i had an electric fan go out and it caused the same thing. If you turn your a/c on the fan should also kick on if not your fan motor may have failed.

I don't feel like going through the posts to see, but could it be going off on high pressure?

The fan is working and the mechanic even added an additional fan which might have helped a little. I'm not sure about the high pressure thing. But the compressor seems to be working as in its not cutting off. The vent temp just starts to rise rapidly when I stop even at a red light. Its better now because I'm in south Alabama around Mobile and we have been having mornings in the 50-60 degree range and highs in the 70s which obviously have an impact on the air conditioner. Thanks for the replies so far.

The compressor not cutting off is an indicator that you do not have enough refridgerant (like I mentioned already) or a sensor is not reading correctly, or both. Charge the system at 2000 rpm, add some leak detector dye, and recheck the temp and pressure sensors. Then use it for a while and check to see if the dye has leaked out anywhere.

Also something I did not know. Safecar.com lists a TSB Service Bulletin No.: 2401605 4.7L IMPROVED A/C PERFORMANCE. *SC

I'll have to reread your posts as I do not remember if you said you have the 4.7 or not.
