Default 2006 Hemi possibly destroyed

Bought an 06 Durango Hemi, 100,000 miles on Memorial day ( 1 month ago). Carfax showed regular engine oil changes and I even found previous owner who said she had no problems with it when she traded it in. Absolutely no rust anywhere. Thorough check of truck twice before buying it.

Two weeks ago the manifolds bolts broke on pass side. Today driving along without any problem and thinking to myself how nice of a rig it is and how sweet it runs down the freeway. Stop at local Dodge dealership to pickup some running board bolts. Come out and she won't start. It tries to start but just major engine noise and shuts down. No hole in the block that I can see and no oil on the ground. It rained heavily yesterday but it has been been driven a good bit since then. I have already upgraded to the new cowl design and even used rubber grommets around the wiper shaft holes to prevent water. After the heavy rain yesterday I checked under the hood to see if my cowl work did its job and it was bone dry.

I'm just about at heart attack point here thinking my engine is shot. The dealer will get to it tomorrow. Haven't even made a payment on it yet. Called Chrysler and they said they could help with the situation but need a diagnosis from the dealer first. She mentioned something about rental car. That doesn't help me if the bill is $7,000 dollars for an $11,000 truck.

What kind of "major engine noise"? So it does start or no?

Initially it made a loud "ZZZZZZ" noise like a gear stripping or major lifter noise. I tried again and it was just loud thudding and clunking. Never would fully get running.

Yes. I checked everything. All was good. I checked it again yesterday morning and again after it wouldn't start. Before I bought it I even checked for pending codes and checked the charging system along with ball joints and tie rod ends. Not a drop of oil under this thing anywhere. No signs where oil had been soaking either then had been washed off during prep. Everything was dry and solid. Not a speck of rust anywhere.

Is this from a used lot, private party or where?

Dodge says for sure a lower end issue. Needed authorization to pull the oil pan ($700.00) to check further. We'll know more when they get that done.

Dodge dealer just quoted me $11,200 just for the shortblock and parts. Not including labor.
