2004 2.7 litre Intrepid Shift Detent Cable Problem Can anyone tell me how to adjust
I just finished replacing water pump and timing chain tesioner in my 2004 2.7 dodge intrepid
when i finished, it started rough, but then purred like a kitten
however, when i took it for a test run, and the engine reached 2400 rpms the car would jerk 3 times and not shift into gear
My favorite mechanic, Rocco, told me i possibly need to adjust the shift detent cable, but i forgot what he said
Can anyone help

the water pump will not give you check engine light. there has to be something else wrong. but to check your engine light code start with your key in the ignition.
from the "off" position, turn key to "on" position without actually starting 3 times.
so: off-on-off-on-off-on and leave it. the code will be displayed in your odometer and will start with a "P" like "P1684" or "P0455" etc. if this doesn't work. start over and make sure you do it quickly. it will say "done" when finished. once you get the codes, post back any that show and we can go from there.

i wouldn't take it apart. i would double check the cam sensor first. sounds like it went out on you. another guy had the same issue as he was driving home from work. hit 2500 rpms and the car started to buck and act up. he replaced the cam sensor and all is well.
had your timing been off, you would have noticed immediately. car would not start or car would continue to run rough. would not have "purred" like you stated.
