My girlfriend really wants to buy an intrepid, but my family has had 2 intrepids and put a transmission in both, so I'm somewhat leery of these cars. What should I look for? What should I expect for problems with these cars?
Thanks
you seem to be intelligent, do a google search for 2.7 chrysler engine and see ALL the actions against chrysler for the worst POS they even engineered (even worse than the transmissions!!!!)

For the couple years of this cluster$%#@ of an engine, I typically would take the position in most cases that people were neglecting them. As in, it was in the economical Intrepid and Concorde and the people buying them just couldn't afford regular oil changes, using wrong oil etc. Then after the revelation, I convinced myself using synthetic would resolve the issue. However being someone who works on these regularly, I couldn't even make a reman last 4 years before it slung off the damn chain because the primary tensioner failed. Just an huge engineering EPIC FAIL IMO, yet it is still used up to 2009 in some models. I hope it gets dropped, it's looong overdue.
thanks for the headsup. did my research, have an appointment for a sludge cleanout and possibly new timing belt and water pump if needed all paid by the dealer cos i my family has gotten a bunch of cars from them. the guy before me possibly took care of it cos its running strong at 96k miles and looking at a possible 3.2 swap. dunno what ill do with transmission though
