A leak down test involves pressurizing the cylinders through the spark plug hole, In the case of a broken timing belt, remove the rocker arms so the all valves are closed. Then do a leak down on each cylinder. A bent valve will cause excessive leakage and in the case of a bent exhaust valve can even be heard at the tail pipe.
